One Christmas Star by Mandy Baggot; Aria
Page Count (e-book) – Not Stated
The Blurb:
Emily Parker is set to have the worst Christmas ever!
Her flatmate’s moved out, she’s closed her heart to love and she’s been put in charge of the school original Christmas show – with zero musical ability.
Disgraced superstar, Ray Stone is in desperate need of a quick PR turnaround. Waking up from a drunken stupor to a class of ten-year-olds snapping pics and Emily looking at him was not what he had in mind.
Ray needs Emily’s help to delete the photos, and she needs his with the show. As they learn to work together they may just open their hearts to more than a second chance…
My Review:
Well! Give me a book with a disgraced rock star taking centre stage and you’ll see me sit up to attention faster than a cat hearing the rustle of a Dreamies bag! This gorgeous offering is everything you would hope to find in a Mandy Baggot Christmas book.
Sweet, kind, lovely Emily is the school teacher with the heart of gold. She adores her pupils and strives to do the best she can for them in every way. She is desperate for promotion up to Deputy Head and, when the fire-breathing dragon of a headmistress puts her in charge of putting on the school’s annual Christmas show, she sees this as the perfect opportunity to prove she is right for the role. The small matter of her complete lack of musical ability is only a tiny little blip in her plan.
Ray Stone is the rock star who’s down on his uppers, and whose reputation is being shredded on an almost daily basis by his bitter ex-girlfriend. He finds himself homeless and, when you add in the secret he is keeping from his ‘at-the-end-of-my-tether’ agent, you really wonder how he’ll ever find a way out of the hole he is currently in.
The universes of Emily and Ray should never meet… But they do! Over an injured hedgehog… And the ensuing tale is so delightful, it would melt even the most frozen of Christmas hearts. There is fun, laughter and maybe even the odd tear.
This book, however, is not all jolly ho-ho-ho; there is a dark undercurrent running through it which pulls the reader in further and keeps you fully invested in the story as you wait to see if your suspicions are correct.
To conclude – this is a fabulous Christmas story and is absolutely perfect for kick-starting the Christmas feels.
