The Blurb.

The unexpected death of Rose’s beloved aunt ends up being a driving force in her uneventful life. She gives up her lonely, unfulfilled big city existence for the country home and life from cherished childhood memories.
But can it live up to them?
All she wants is to find her place in the world; the happiness and independence she has been searching for. With her little dog Muffin by her side and a much-needed new friend, it does seem possible – until an encounter with the handsome local Laird of the Munro Estate sends her spiralling from young professional woman to hormonal bundle of goo.
Their chemistry is undeniable, but with him not seemingly on the market, this might not be the place for her after all.
Thrust into the world of country living, will Rose ever find true love?
In this roller coaster of emotions and a whole lot of country charm, one thing is for sure: Rose is certainly not going to be bored anymore!

My Review

Any book set in a cute Scottish village will always grab my attention and it was that which piqued my interest in this one.A quaint little cottage and a dark, brooding laird certainly ticks the boxes for a romance that hits all the required notes. I also enjoyed the occasional Scottish colloquialism which popped up within the dialogue. These certainly enhanced the feel of the Highlands for sure.
Rose is a character whom some people may adore and others may not. When we first meet her, she is well-adjusted and pretty comfortable in her own skin. I chose to overlook the ‘pink’ car for, as some of you may know from a previous review, pink is a colour which I am less than keen on and the handbag sized dog was perhaps a little too girly for my tastes but that does not detract from the fact that Muffin is sometimes a bit of a scene-stealer.
Rob Munro is the local laird and he too, as we find out through the course of the story, is generally in control of his faculties, a good businessman and does pretty well at keeping his loves affairs at arms length. He is, of course, drop-dead gorgeous with an exceptionally healthy bank balance. He is what a leading man should be.
When Rose and Rob’s worlds collide – quite literally – the sparks do fly and Rose is not slow to give him a piece of her mind. Rob is unused to the fairer sex responding to him in this manner and he quite bemused by her response. Rose soon makes her getaway but it’s a small village and, inevitably, their paths cross again… And again… And again. Each time they meet the attraction grows.
Just to mix things up a bit, Rose becomes best friends with Rob’s younger sister who is a fun, feisty character and the one who I enjoyed reading about the most. Her straight-talking manner helped to ease the growing frustration of Rose as she descends daily into a quivering wreck whenever Rob is around. In fairness, she is not alone for, such is the strength of the attraction between them, that Rob is equally as besotted and befuddled of mind.
The saying is, ‘The path of true love never runs smooth’ and that is the case here. Rob is often seen with a glamorous vixen on his arm and by his side and the nature of their relationship is one which Rose must find a way of dealing with.
To conclude: At 656 pages, the book is a tad overlong for the genre it wishes to sit within for, while we all like a romance where the leading couple find themselves wholly enamoured with each other, perhaps a few less instances of ‘they couldn’t keep their hands off each other’ would have let the story flow along at a better pace. That aside, however, the story does do exactly what is says on the tin – it’s a cosy romance novel that you can easily curl up with and get lost in for several hours.
